Understanding Türkiye’s baby-name choices in 2025

The most popular Turkish baby names 2025 list shows the names leading that year’s national baby-name rankings. Read it as a snapshot of names used in Türkiye, with meanings, language origins and pronunciation explored separately.

  1. Alya and Alparslan lead

According to TÜİK’s 2025 Türkiye-level figures, Alya ranked first among girls with 8,739, and Alparslan ranked first among boys with 7,509.

  2. Girls’ top-30 arrivals

Eflin, Ceylin, Arya, İpek, Mira and Sare entered the national girls’ top 30 compared with 2024. This describes a change in list membership.

  3. Boys’ top-30 arrivals

Cihan and Yaman entered the national boys’ top 30 compared with 2024. Their appearance does not establish when either name first came into use.

Look beyond the leading name

The top Turkish names 2025 offer more variety than the leading entries alone suggest. According to TÜİK’s 2025 Türkiye-level figures, Defne followed Alya among girls with 7,716, followed by Gökçe with 7,582. Among boys, Göktuğ followed Alparslan with 6,029, then Metehan with 5,379. Use the girls’ names directory and boys’ names directory to explore individual entries beyond their positions. The name statistics hub helps place annual baby-name figures alongside other kinds of popularity information.

Let the dictionary explain the name

Alya’s place in the ranking and its meaning are separate pieces of information. Alya has Arabic origins and means “high, exalted; an elevated place.” Gökçe has Turkish origins and means “sky-blue; beautiful, pleasing.” Umay refers to a protective female figure in ancient Turkic belief. These descriptions explain words and cultural associations. They do not establish a bearer’s religion, ethnicity or character, and a position in the baby-name list does not make one interpretation of a name more certain.

Use the previous year as a clear reference

Open the 2024 baby-name ranking when you want to compare this year with the preceding list. Keep national results separate from the local views available through the provinces hub: a national position cannot be assumed to apply in every province. Also distinguish a name entering the top 30 from a change in its count, since those are different observations. Consult the methodology guide before drawing conclusions from names that fall outside the published list or from differently scoped datasets.

Make a useful 2025 shortlist

  • Note whether you are saving a national rank or a provincial result.
  • Keep Alya and Arya as distinct names when comparing entries.
  • Preserve the full spelling of double names such as Ömer Asaf.
  • Read the meaning and origin before choosing a name for its position.
  • Keep the 2025 date with any figures you share.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the 2025 figures come from?

Source: TÜİK, address-based population register, 2025, Türkiye level, top-30 lists. TÜİK is Türkiye’s national statistics institute.

Are all names in this ranking Turkish in origin?

No. “Turkish baby names” here means names used in Türkiye; their language origins vary and are explained in individual entries.

Is this also a ranking of names across all ages?

No. This page concerns baby names in 2025. It does not rank the entire population’s given names.

Does national popularity predict a name’s local position?

No. A province has its own results, so check the relevant local list rather than carrying a national rank over to it.
